We Are Malden's Independent Voters

A registered voter who does not belong to the Democrat or Republican party would, in most cases, be registered as Unenrolled. Unenrolled is also referred to as 'unaffiliated' but more commonly as 'independent'. Initially, being an independent voter simply meant not enrolling with any of the recognized political parties, but some confusion began in 2014 with Evan Falchuk's creation of the United Independent Party in Massachusetts. At the time, many independent VOTERS unintentionally registered as members of the Independent PARTY not understanding the difference. So, if you intend to vote as Unenrolled, be sure that the letter indicating your voter/Party affiliation is a "U".

An Unenrolled voter is allowed to request either a Democrat or Republican ballot when voting in a Primary election.
